It consists of five distinct monumental buildings, of which the most important is Complex A: side buildings, the temple base, an enclosed patio, the main esplanade (lawn), the southern esplanade and paved pathway. During the years of excavations at the site, the archeological team has discovered a variety of important archeological relics, among them pottery, metal fragments, seeds and human remains. The Cañada de la Virgen site is a part of a project whose programs include: archeological excavation and conservation of the temple site; the restoration and conservation of the landscape surrounding the monument; educational programs and civic service programs; and the construction of a public services unit to attend to tourists to the site. This archeological site represents a great tourist opportunity for visitors to San Miguel de Allende, since it shows an important part of pre-Columbian Mexican culture as well as the natural beauty of the San Miguel countryside. |
